Head toward the Grand Canal from Piazza San Marco and you end up in an area known as the Piazzetta. Long ago there was a dock there. These days it's one of the best places to run into a gondolier, or thirty.
The skills required to be a gondolier are not all strength and skill. The ability to hang out goes a long way for these guys too.
