Toastmasters
Gliding across the surface of Newport Harbor, we do a lot of things:
We talk, we sing, we soak in the serenity,
and we greet others as they pass by.
Raising your glass in a toast is a common salute in our realm.
Tonight, as Simon rowed by on the Wedding Gondola,
I encouraged my passengers on the Phoenix to toast their contemporaries.
As gondoliers, we are masters of the toast.
Here's to the people on the other boat:
May they be as happy as we are.
May they experience the same level of joy that we do.
And if they don't, may they keep it to themselves so as not to
spoil things for us in our special time.
